The Attacks – 5: Child Abuse
Mentally, this was by far the hardest of this series of drawings to do. I kept putting it off because even to think of it was so upsetting, let alone commit an image to paper.
Sadly, New Zealand – the country we used to fondly call “Godzone” – now has one of the highest rates of child abuse in the world. Over the last few years we have seen a distressing number of appalling cases of infant and toddler death following often lengthy abuse, come before the courts. In most cases parents and/or family members are found guilty. I knew this image had to be done.
Child Abuse
It is unbelievable that individuals should contemplate, let alone carry out, these horrific criminal assaults. This is one of the ugliest examples of the devil’s work in this world.
The Lord loved children especially, and He didn’t mince words when describing their importance to Him:
He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
“And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”
Matthew 18:2-6
